Check your eligibility

Some eligibility criteria are general. However, each partner country has its own unique eligibility criteria. Candidates should take note of the specific requirements applicable to candidates from their country of origin by contacting the recruitment authority in their home country.

In terms of the general criteria, applicants must :

be native speakers of the language they wish to teach in France (Arabic, Chinese, Czech, Dutch, English, Hebrew, German, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish or Turkish);
have completed secondary school as well as higher education in the country where the application is submitted;
be between 20 and 35 years of age by 31/12/2025;
be enrolled with good standing at a university at the time of application. Some countries and partner institutions accept other administrative statuses (ie statuses other than "student"). Applicants should refer to the specific conditions in their place of residence;
have completed at least 2 years of higher education in the same programme at the time of submitting the application;
have a good knowledge of the French language (B1 on the scale of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

Nationals of the following states and territories must be enrolled at the University of the West Indies (Cave Hill, Mona and St. Augustine campuses) in order to apply for the language assistant exchange programme: Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, British Virgin Islands, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

Renewing your contract

We are offering a second wave of applications for contract renewal from 16 February to 31 March 2025 (inclusive). The renewal procedure is available in this tutorial.

Eligibility criteria

Contract renewal only concerns assistants taking part in the official programme managed by France Éducation international in 2024-2025:

German, English, Italian and Dutch speakers ;
Arabic-speaking assistants from Lebanon ;
Chinese-speaking assistants from the People's Republic of China;
Spanish from Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, Mexico, Paraguay, Spain, Uruguay and Venezuela;
Portuguese speakers from Portugal.

Assistants recruited locally by the academies are not eligible for contract renewal via this procedure.

Important information concerning contract renewal

Assistants who are not nationals of the European Union must return to their home country at the end of their contract, in order to renew their visa on presentation of the new work contract (arrêté de nomination) for the year 2025-2026.

Applying is a serious commitment. Resigning entails a lot of administrative work and may delay the arrival of your replacement: visa application, work contract, purchase of plane tickets, etc. We therefore encourage you to think carefully before applying!

Is the name of your referent teacher incorrect on ADELE ?

It is too late to make changes to the platform at this stage. Not to worry, we have a solution for you:

Your school or your current referent teacher can send us their feedback by email to renouvellement@france-education-international.fr.
The comment must be sent by email (no PDF documents)
Subject of the email: NAME of the assistant_country of the assistant_AVIS (for example: BROWN_Ireland_AVIS)
Content of the message: your surname, first name, schools where you work, comments on your work and on your application for renewal (unfavourable, favourable, very favourable).

The deadline for sending your complete file (validated by the candidate and including the evaluations submitted by your teacher and school) is March 31st 2025. No applications will be accepted after this date.

Application evaluations

Please note that France Éducation international and its partners take several criteria into account when assessing contract renewal applications :

- the evaluation of your teacher-referent on your ADELE application ;

- the evaluation of your hierarchy (principal/IEN/CPDLV) in your ADELE application;

- the assistant's motivation and contributions to school life;

- the number of posts allocated to applicants from each country;

- the number of first-time applicants from the assistant's country of origin.

Results

Applying for a contract renewal does not guarantee a favourable response. The requests made by assistants concerning their renewal application will be respected according to the positions available.

From 31 March 2025, our team will write to language assistants whose applications are complete to confirm the next steps. Please note that if you have not received any news from us, this means that you have not completed your application.

You will be able to track the progress of your application on the ADELE application.

If you are renewed, you will receive a new appointment order sent by the Académie from June 2025 which will specify your final assignment (city and school). France Éducation International does not hold this information.
